Attractions in and around Louth in Lincolnshire
Cadwell Park
Cadwell Park Race Circuit is just a few miles from Louth and is set in the Lincolnshire Wolds between the villages of Scamblesby and Tathwell. Many major motorbike events are held here with track days being a popular attraction.
Market Rasen Race Course
Market Rasen Race Course is set at the western edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and has a friendly family atmosphere. Horse racing is held throughout the year and it is a great day out.
Battle of Britain Visitor Centre
RAF Coningsby is the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which was formed in 1957 to commemorate the Royal Air Force's finest hour. The collection has a Lancaster bomber, 5 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes and a Dakota all of which are still flying today. Visitors to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight can take a tour around the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight hangar and are guided by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer guides. Entry to the exhibition centre, souvenir shop and car park is free however there is a small charge for guided tours of the hangar.
Alford Windmill
The windmill at Alford is the only windmill left standing in the town. In its heyday the six-floored mill, standing over 30 metres high, was capable of grinding 4 to 5 tonnes of corn a day. The windmill is an interesting place to visit and you can even enjoy a cream tea whilst sitting under the huge turning sails. Alford Windmill is one of the last 3 commercially working windmills left in Lincolnshire.
Hubbards Hills Louth
Hubbards Hills is a renowned beauty spot on the outskirts of Louth. It is park land and is great for long scenic walks. Hubbards Hills is a popular picnic area in the summertime for local families as it has a lake which is great for paddling in on hot days and with plenty of ducks to feed, children love the park. The park is dedicated to the memory of Annie Pahud. Annie’s husband was a teacher in Louth in the Victorian era. Tragically Mr Pahud took his own life following the death of his wife Annie whom he loved dearly, he bequeathed money in his Will for the purchase of Hubbard Hills in the memory of Annie and for the use of the people of Louth.
Donna Nook
At Donna Nook Nature Reserve you can watch seals in their natural habitat. It is one of the most accessible beaches in the country for watching seals. Donna Nook is only a short car journey from Louth and the best time to view the the seals and their pups is in late autumn and early winter.
Rushmoor Country Park
Rushmoor Country Park is set within the grounds of a Grade II listed farmhouse. It is home to an extensive collection of rare, ornamental and traditional breeds of domestic fowl. The wildlife pond is a haven for many wild birds and amongst other regular visitors to it, are dragonflies, water voles and moor hens. Rushmoor Country Park has a herb garden, animal garden, children’s play area, a picnic area and tearooms.
Golf Clubs
Kenwick Park Golf Club is 2 miles from Louth and its golf course is set within a area of outstanding natural beauty and has the reputation of being one of Lincolnshire’s finest golf courses. The course offers players a memorable golf experience.
Louth Golf Club borders Hubbard's Hills and it offers golfers a challenging 6,430 yard 18 hole parkland course, and with its period clubhouse, putting green and practice areas, Louth Golf Club provides excellent facilities for visiting golfers to Louth.
Woodthorpe Hall Golf Club was formed in March 1986 and its course is a full 18 hole course measuring 5,140 yards off the white tees, with an SSS of 65 and a Par of 67. Visitors to Louth can enjoy the course by paying green fees on a daily basis.
The North Shore Golf Club at Skegness is an excellent course offering a challenge to all levels of golfer.
